Arnaud Desplechin beat stiff competition from Emmanuelle Bercot, Maiwenn, Deniz Gamze Erguven, Xavier Giannoli and Jacques Audiard to take home the Best Director César for Trois Souvenirs de Ma Jeunesse. Deniz Gamze Erguven did not leave the ceremony empty-handed. She won the César for Best First Film and Best Editing as well as Best Original Screenplay and Best Original Music. Likewise Catherine Frot took the Best Actress award for Giannoli’s Marguerite.
Best Film César went to Philippe Faucon’s Fatima which examines the challenges facing a North African woman living in Lyon which also saw a Best Female Newcomer award for Zita Hanrot. Vincent Lindon followed his Best Actor award at last year’s Cannes Film Festival for Stéphane Brizé’s La Loi du Marché with the César for Best Actor. Elsewhere, Rod Paradot won Best Male Newcomer for Emmanuelle Bercot’s Cannes festival opener La Tête Haute, Sudse Babett Knudsen won Best Supporting Actress for (L’Hermine) and Benoît Magimel, Best Supporting Actor for (La Tête Haute).
