French President Francois Hollande has issued a statement saying he is considering legal action against Closer magazine over allegations of a relationship with French actress Julie Gayet.
On Friday, Closer published a special seven-page edition with photos of the alleged relationship with the actress including a front-page spread with the title ‘Francois Hollande and Julie Gayet – the president’s secret love”
Hollande denounced the allegations as “an attack on the right to privacy. He told the French news agency AFP he had a right to privacy like every other citizen.
Rumours of an alleged relationship between Hollande and Gayet have been circulating on the internet for months. Officially the president is in a relationship with the journalist Valerie Trierweiler after having lived for many years with the former presidential candidate and mother of his four children Ségolène Royale.
Julie Gayet, aged-41, is currently appearing in the film Les Ames de Papier. Last March, she filed a complaint with prosecutors in Paris against various media outlets that were reporting on the rumours. Her lawyer at the time said there was no basis to the claims.
